Medical and recreational uses of cannabis

The cannabis plant has a broad therapeutic spectrum. It means that it has been using as a medicine in many health conditions since ancient times. While taking into account its pharmacological features, one should always keep in mind that it can be an organic alternative for many drugs. In current times, medical cannabis (cannabis medica) still works as one of the effective ways to treat several medical conditions. Its recreational uses in neurological disorders, chronic pain conditions, and gastrointestinal conditions are worth mentioning.

Several chemicals are extracted from cannabis plants.  Among which Tetrahydrocannabinol, cannabidiol (CBD), and cannabinol are well known for their psychoactive effects.

Cannabidiol (CBD) chemical is famous for its psychoactive properties. Medical CBD (CBD medico)is primarily used as an anxiolytic drug to treat anxiety and sleep disorders. It can also act as an anti-depressant for depressive illness disorders. These anxiolytic and anti-depressant mechanisms of CBDs are mediated by facilitating the endocannabinoid system in the brain.

The therapeutic effect of medical cannabis (cannabis medica) is vast if it comes to a neurological disorder. It works as anti-seizure medications in the treatment of epilepsy. It also acts as an analgesic by reducing spasticity in spinal cord injuries and during the relapse period of multiple sclerosis. Its therapeutic effects are also associated with the treatment of Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injuries, phantom limb pain, Alzheimer’s and migraine attacks. It can be a good treatment option for chronic pains (especially of neurological origin) in which other drug therapies failed to do so.
