Holsters are used to prevent inadvertent movement of guns. Holsters are worn with the belt most times. Although it could be worn on other parts of the body. The use of holsters could be traced to the cowboys. At present times, the use of holsters is not only limited to cowboys. The police and other individuals in possession of firearms now make use of preferable type of holsters. The cowboy holsters were worn majorly on the belts by cowboys back in the days. It is made of genuine leather and worn around the waist like a belt. Some holsters that cowboys use can hold two guns; one on the left and the other on the right, while some could hold a gun. Cowboys guns are customized to fit into the respective holsters. There are holsters for pistols, short guns and various types of guns that cowboys make use of.
Not all holsters are worn on the belts like crossdraw holsters. This type of holster can be used to hold a pistol on the side of the waist by wearing it on a belt. The holster can be leather or from any fabric. This holster is not worn around the waist like that of the cowboys. It could be easily hanged on the belt on either the left or right-hand-side, depending on the user. Other holsters are worn on the shoulders around the chest while some in rare cases on the ankles. The ankle holsters could be used to hold guns that are very small in size. Ankle holsters might not be visible as clothing might cover it.
