Shoes are items of footwear used for comfort, decoration, fashion and protection. Materials used to make shoes include wood, leather, canvas, plastics, rubber etc. Shoes help to protect the human foot from environmental hazards such as temperature extremes and sharp objects. Aside from this crucial role, shoes are playing a big role in creating endorsements, personality and identity affiliation. An example of this is Nike’s Air jordan 1and subsequent releases which are named after the renowned sport icon, Michael Jordan. The Air Jordan series has become very influential not only in sports but also in fashion and pop culture. You get to have a feel of being a star just by making them part of your wardrobe.
The initial prototype of the Air Jordan serieswas the Nike Air
Ship. Peter C. Moore is credited as the designer of
the first Air Jordan. This prototype was banned by the National Basketball
Association due to the little white on them by a now repealed law. This gave
rise to the Air
jordan 1which became the first shoe worn in the NBA
having variety of colors. It was first released in1985 and re-releases called
retros continue till today. The Nike Air
Ship from 1984 has found its way back into the market with
the tag name ‘Banned’. It was released in 2016 with its notorious red and black
colourway but without the ‘X’ on the footwear heels.
